I have always found it to be true, that what I’m focused on takes precedence over everything else in my mind.
The rest fades into the background, getting lost in the muddled noise of my imperfect brain.
So what I focus my energy on matters.
I want my focus to be Jesus.
Just Jesus.
And with my eyes fixed on Him -everything else fades into the background. It may not heal my pain instantly, the after effects of trauma don’t disappear completely- but my past is not ruling my life or driving the decisions I make.
Living through a pandemic is hard. It’s been rough for so many. The division in our country is unrelenting. We are living through uncharted territory and for so many reasons people are really struggling. It has been hard in different ways for each of us.
For you, this might be added stress in addition to trying to stay sober or trying to make sure you can afford medication. Some of you are struggling to make it to meetings or counseling sessions that look and feel differently now.
Keep your eyes on Him. Hold on. Don’t give up. Don’t ignore the storms brewing in the background but allow them to fade behind Jesus. Let Him walk ahead of you. Follow His lead.
You’ll make it through. 🖤
It’s easy to become fixated on our circumstances. It could be our shortcomings, flaws, character defects, things we need to work on, old trauma and the after effects that are still hemorrhaging or impacting our lives in different ways, things we haven’t done but want to do, or even our past mistakes that are still haunting our minds.
So much comes into view every day- if we don’t have a solid focus, it is easy to get lost.
