The road to recovery.
Often, people assume that this simply means sobriety.
But for people who experienced complex childhood trauma for an extended period of time, “recovery” means something different.
It’s more. It’s personal and diverse and it’s different for each one of us. Because we all react different to different, unhealthy, experiences.
For me that means when the tornado spit me out, I crawled around wounded, confused, and afraid to talk about the whirlwind that had been my life.
Left alone with severe anxiety. Depression. An attachment disorder.
But also with the capacity to endure. With vigor and strength. Wisdom. Willingness to change and grow and learn.
And I knew that I had no idea what I was doing.
Change is really difficult. But if our goal is to create a new identity and a brand new life- we have to make decisions every single day that support that goal.
So keep going. Do it afraid.
